Team Hvaldimir Purpose

OneWhale, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was founded to safeguard and advocate for Hvaldimir, a beluga with a captive past who sought human companionship as he navigated Norway's fjords, busy harbors, and fish farms. OneWhale created Team Hvaldimir to follow his journey and help protect him from harm.

Team Hvaldimir works to inform the Norwegian authorities of his situation, by keeping them up to date on his movements and behaviors, aiming to influence decisions for his future.

TEAM HVALDIMIR PURPOSE:

1. To serve as an rapid response team and be on-site in the event of any emergency where Hvaldimir is in crisis or the situation around him needs immediate management.

2. To provide an on-call public safety & educational team when Hvaldimir visits high-density tourist destinations to ensure his safety, well-being and the public’s safety.

3. To serve as a liaison, offer insights and be a point of contact for salmon farms. Inform them on what to expect with Hvaldimir on-site, help troubleshoot if needed and promote harmonious co-existence.

4. To visit or follow Hvaldimir predominantly on an as-needed basis. Assess and record his general health and body condition. Capture imagery of him. Perform assessments or scientific tasks as available - such as inspecting blow hole, bumps and bruises, collecting scat samples.

5. To report to NOAH and the Norwegian authorities on his behavior, movements, activities and overall well-being, while advocating and lobbying for his safety and protection.

6. To be the go-to resource for the public to understand his current state and situation via various media, social media and other broad communications.
